Built in 1887 by the sea, this old mansion takes its name from the limestone rocks that line the coast from Cassis to Marseille. Situated after the marina, it enjoys a unique location, between the village and the Calanques, with a breathtaking view of the majestic cliff of Cap Canaille. It was only in the early 1920s that the property was transformed into a hotel and opened to the public. Winston Churchill, and later Edith Piaf, stayed there. From this period, the building retains some beautiful elements of Art Deco architecture: its wrought iron entrance framed by columns, two balconies with worked corbelling, and an astonishing banister with a scaly motif, where the initials RB for Roches…
A 19th-century villa turned Art Deco resort, Les Roches Blanches has transformed once again into a retro-chic seaside hideaway. The 45-room hotel lies between the village of Cassis and its Calanques, directly facing Cap Canaille; terraced gardens, shaded by umbrella pines, lead past two pools to a sea access. Indulge in a massage with warm shells at the Sisley spa before dining al fresco on bouillabaisse borgne and locally sourced lamb or try sea bass ceviche at the raw Le Loup Bar.
