Ladder, A Ted Turner Reserve

Purchased by Ted Turner in 1992, the Ladder is located in southcentral New Mexico and covers an incredible 156,439 acres (245 square miles). Ladder contains four tributaries of the Rio Grande River – the Animas, Seco, Palomas and Cuchillo streams. These streams support abundant flora, including sycamores and cottonwoods, and fauna such as Chiricahua leopard frogs and sensitive Rio Grande cutthroat trout, which will be soon restored to the streams. Undoubtedly, Ladder’s most distinguishing characteristics are its incredibly diverse and spectacular wildlife (bison, elk, deer, antelope, javelina, mountain lions, bears, etc.) and its magnificent mix of ecosystems, ranging from desert grasslands…

The conservationist has diligently preserved the diverse ecosystems comprising his 156,000-acre Ladder Ranch, in south-central New Mexico; the four tributaries of the Rio Grande that traverse the land support abundant flora and fauna, such as historic bison.
